Skin and scalp health benefits of a specific botanical extract blend in urban outdoors workers
Environmental pollution is increasingly recognized as a significant contributor to skin damage in individuals exposed to high environmental stress.
The aim of the study conducted by Complife’s team is to demonstrate the efficacy of the botanical extract both on the skin and the scalp health, particularly focusing on subjects with sensitive scalps. To support these effects, a 12-week double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial was performed in 66 women working outdoors in urban areas with high particulate matter (PM) levels and taking 250 mg of the botanical blend daily.
Specifically, we have demonstrated, both in vitro and in vivo, of a commercially polyphenol-enriched ingredient comprising Lippia citriodora Paláu, Olea europaea L., Rosmarinus officinalis L., and Sophora japonica L.
The primary endpoints related to the efficacy in improving the face skin and scalp conditions in highly polluted environments were the evaluation of face and scalp skin moisturization, transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and sebum content, face skin elasticity, profilometry (wrinkle depth), dark spot intensity, radiance, scalp aspect, and product antioxidant potential. The secondary outcome measures were the investigator safety evaluation and the self-assessment questionnaire.
