New Challenges for Sunscreen Formulators
CURRENT TRENDS IN THE SUNSCREEN MARKET ARE MOVING TOWARDS THE DEFINITION OF NEW ENVIRONMENTALLY SUSTAINABLE PROTECTION FACTORS.
If yesterday was enough to think of protecting oneself from solar radiation, today it is increasingly required that the protection is not only aimed at the skin but also and above all at the health of the oceans and the organisms that inhabit them.
This awareness is at the base of the well-known ban, by the administrations of some exotic destinations, for some “harmful” substances contained in the formulation of solar products.
AT THE MOMENT THERE HAVE NOT YET BEEN CONCRETE DEVELOPMENTS IN THE INGREDIENTS OF SUNSCREEN PRODUCTS, IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE FORMULATORS WILL FACE A NEW CHALLENGE: TO PRODUCE FORMULATIONS “PERFORMING, WITH LESS FILTERS, WITH MORE BOOSTERS AND WITH ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY NATURAL INGREDIENTS”.
Replacing filters inside a sunscreen product is certainly a difficult task; boosters and substances with activity in reducing the harmful effects of sun exposure will certainly have a role in supporting greater product performance.
To date, there are still few products formulated with natural ingredients that respect the environment – and that promise not to harm either human health or the marine ecosystem.
Are you working on one of those?
